Bereavement Mrs Nondumiso Sijabulile Khoza-Xhinti

It is with great sadness to inform you that Mrs Nondumiso Sijabulile Khoza-Xhinti passed on yesterday, the 25 June 2026. Mrs Xhinti is the wife of Rev Sandisele Xhinti, and the firstborn daughter of Mr Dumisani and Nomaswazi Khoza. The funeral details will be announced as soon as they are available.

 

The Rev Xhinti is a minister within the eGoli Presbytery. Please keep the Rev Xhinti and the whole family in prayer during this difficult time.

Bereavements REV DR CLIVE JACOBSON

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA, 

It is with sadness that I announce the passing on of the Rev Clive Jacobson on Sunday, 7 June 2026. The Rev Jacobson was a retired minister resident within the bounds of the Presbytery of Thekwini.

Sincere condolences to his family and the Presbytery of Thekwini which he served with love, diligence, and zeal. 

The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 at 11am, at Glenwood Church, 339 Esther Roberts Road. GLENWOOD. Durban. 

Let us continue to hold the family up in our prayers.

Bereavements Rev MC Mafokoane

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

 

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing on of the Rev Malemela Charles Mafokoane. The Rev Mafokoane died from a tragic car accident on the night of 15 May 2026. He was serving as an Interim Moderator at Rabaitsile Poho Memorial Congregation in Denneysville within the bounds of the Presbytery of Trans-Xhariep.

Our heartfelt condolences to Mamoruti Thandi Mafokoane and the kids as well as entire Mafokoane family. Please keep them in your prayers during this difficult time.

The funeral arrangements will be shared as soon as they are available.

Bereavement Rev Kees Jongeleen

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

 

Please keep Lynette, the wife of the Rev Kees Jongeleen and also his family in your prayers.

Rev Kees Jongeleen died yesterday afternoon, on Easter Resurrection Sunday at the age of 92.

He served for many years as minister of the Mother Church of the UPCSA, St Andrew’s Presbyterian in Cape Town, until his retirement, and then after his retirement, he served as the minister of Woodstock Presbyterian Church.

Details regarding his funeral service will follow.

Bereavement Notice: Revd CB Bosiki lost his niece in an accident.

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

It is with sadness to announce that the Revd CB Bosiki has lost his niece. His brother’s daughter, who spent most of her time with the Revd Bosiki’s family, was involved in a fatal accident on the 25th December 2025. Further details will be provided shortly. The Rev Bosiki is a minister serving within the Presbytery of Amathole.

Let’s keep the family in our prayers as they go through this painful period.

Notice of Death : The Rev Boet van Schalkwyk

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

Many of you remember Boet van Schalkwyk, a retired minister who, in recent years, has been doing amazing work in the Sailor’s Society – a mission to sailors. He was the minister at Saints and a past moderator of this presbytery.

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of a retired minister, the Rev JD “Boet” van Schalkwyk. He died yesterday in a car accident. We extend our sympathies to his wife Linda, their children and grandchildren.

Boet was a dynamic and dedicated servant of God who will be hugely missed.

He and Linda were resident within the bounds of the Presbytery of Thekwini.

Bereavements Rex le Roux

Dear Presbytery

We are saddened to share the passing of Rev. Rex le Roux, who went to be with the Lord peacefully on the evening of 12 February at the age of 93.
Before entering the ministry of the UPCSA, Rex had distinguished careers as a land surveyor, advocate, and member of parliament. He went on to serve faithfully as the minister of Crystal Park and as Interim Moderator in several congregations within Tshwane Presbytery. He also played a significant role in the planting of Emmanuel Presbyterian Congregation in Pretoria East, offering his expertise as a land surveyor, barrister, and preacher.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cora, to whom he was married for 68 years, as well as their five children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family has requested a private memorial service at the retirement complex where they lived. Further details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.
We give thanks for the life and ministry of this faithful servant of God and uphold his family in our prayers.

Bereavements Death Notice: Rev PR Smit

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of the retired Rev Pieter Rex Smit.   He passed away at his home, after a 2 month illness. He was residing within the bounds of the Central Cape Presbytery.

He leaves behind his wife Rhona.  Three married children, Robyn, Diane and Andrew. Their spouses and 8 grandchildren.   Also an older sister Molly and younger brother David.

A memorial service will be held at the Hill Presbyterian Church on Friday 25th October 10.30am.

Please keep his wife and the whole family in your prayers during this time of mourning.

The Memorial service for the Rev Dr Dave Smit will be held on Saturday 26 October 2024 at 14h00 at Mowbray Presbyterian Church, 8 Highbury Rd, Mowbray, Cape Town. The service will be live streamed on the church’s platform and a link will be made available closer to the date. The Memorial service will include a procession of ministers, who are requested to wear their clerical robes and form part of the procession, before and after the service.

Please continue to pray for the Smit family during this time of bereavement, and especially Dave’s wife, Renee and children, Gareth and Nikki.

BEREAVEMENTS Rev Peter S Ramalivhana

It is with sadness that I announce the passing on of Rev Peter Sibadela Ramalivhana, a minister Emeritus within the bounds of Limpopo Presbytery. He passed on this morning (30 September) at the age of 99 years.

We are grateful for his life and the impact he had in our Denomination and beyond.
