BEREAVEMENTS Death Notice: Mrs. SM Maja- wife of the Rev AM Maja

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing on of Mrs Sarona Mapudi Maja, the wife of the Rev AM Maja. She passed on the 28th of September at the age of 88. We are grateful for her life and the impact she had in our Denomination and beyond.

The Rev Maja is a minister Emeritus within the bounds of Limpopo Presbytery.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, the 5th of October 2024 at Polokwane, and the Memorial Service dates and times will soon be communicated.

Please keep in your prayers the Rev Maja and the whole family for strength and comfort throughout this mourning period.

With a heavy heart, I announce the passing away of the Rev. Colin Gay. He died peacefully last night (27 September 2024) in Unitas Hospital Centurion. Rev Gay was a retired minister within the Tshwane Presbytery.

Please keep his wife Marina and the family in your prayers through this time of bereavement.

BEREAVEMENT Mr Hart Mokgalapa

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Mr Hart Mogkalapa on Friday the 9th of August 2024 in Soweto, Johannesburg.

Hart, as he was affectionately known, served as a driver and messenger for the UPCSA in the Central Office for many years until his retirement at the end of 2013.

The funeral will be on Saturday the 17th of August 2024 at 09h00, at St Patrick’s Presbyterian Church in Diepkloof, Soweto, and proceed for burial at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto.

Please keep his daughters and the whole Mokgalapa family in your prayers, as they go through the grieving process.

Bereavement MRS JEANETTE CRAIG (WIDOW OF THE REV GLEN CRAIG) PASSED AWAY

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing on of Mrs Jeanette Craig, the widow of the Rev Glen Craig, on Friday the 19th of July 2024. Glen Craig was one of our ministers and a past moderator of the General Assembly who passed away in May last year.

The memorial service of Mrs. Jeanette Craig will be held at Port Alfred Presbyterian Church on Saturday, 27 July 2024 at 10h30.  

May she rest in eternal peace. 

Mrs Craig was a member of Port Alfred Presbyterian Church, within the precinct of the Central Cape Presbytery. Jeanette will be fondly remembered for her stalwart support of Glen, and the loving pastoral care she practiced in every congregation they served.

Let us please uphold the family in our prayers.

BEREAVEMENTS MEMORIAL SERVICE: REV DR ALAN MAKER

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

A memorial service celebrating the life of the late Rev Dr Alan Maker will be held at the Volmoed Chapel on the Hemel-en-Aarde Road, Hermanus, on Monday 15 July 2024 at 2 pm.

All are invited and will be most welcome. Ministers, please note that a robed procession will not take place. The Service will be conducted by the Rev Dr George Marchinkowski and the Rev Rod Botsis. A Tea will follow the service.

An official service will take place at St Columba’s in Parkview, Gauteng, in a few weeks.

BEREAVEMENT REV DR ALAN MAKER PASSED AWAY

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

It is with deep sadness that I announce that the Rev Dr Alan Maker passed away yesterday afternoon (Monday the 8th of July 2024). May he rest in eternal peace. Revs Botsis and Marchinkowski wrote as follows:

 

On behalf of his wife, Margie, and his daughters Claire, Sue and Cathy, we are very sad to tell you that Dr. Alan Maker, a former Moderator of the Assembly (1984) and a much-loved colleague, died peacefully yesterday afternoon.  When details are to hand concerning memorial services to be held in Hermanus and Johannesburg we will communicate these.

BEREAVEMENT Rev Tim HJ Horwood

TO AL IN THE UPCSA

 

It is with sadness to announce that the Rev Tim Horwood passed away yesterday the 30th of June 2024. He was a retired minister and a member of North Durban Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his 2 sons and their families.

The memorial service will be at 3 pm on Wednesday 3 July at North Durban Presbyterian Church within the Presbytery of eThekwini. Please keep his family in your prayers as they deal with the loss of their father.

With deep sadness, I announce the passing of Mzwandile Mtyhobile, brother of the Ministry Secretary, Rev Zwai Mtyhobile. He was gunned down on the 01st  May 2024. May he rest in eternal peace.  

The funeral service will be held on  Saturday 18th May at Bonnievale, Western Cape.

Rev Mtyhobile is the Ministry Secretary and minister serving the St Andrews Pretoria and Pretoria Central congregations.

NOTICE OF DEATH: REV MATHEMBA VICTOR TATI

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing on of the Rev Mathemba Victor Tati in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon, the 14th of March 2024. Rev Tati was travelling from the funeral service of Mrs Tyandela, the wife of the Rev Tyandela when he met his untimely death. May he rest in eternal peace.  The funeral service will be held at the Tati home in Mvumelwano Location, which is on N2 from Qumbu towards Mthatha on Thursday, the 21st of March 2024 at 09:00.

Rev Tati had applied for retirement from active ministry and his last charge was Khayelihle Presbyterian in Umlazi Township within the Presbytery of eThekwini. He later settled within the Presbytery of East Griqualand. He was the husband of the Rev Nonyamezela Constance Tati, the minister of Escort Presbyterian within the Presbytery of Drakensberg. Please uphold the Rev NC Tati and family.
