It is with sadness that I announce the passing on of the Rev Hosiah Nkoana. He passed away this morning of the 12th December 2023.

He was going to be celebrating his 40th Anniversary in Active Ministry next year in 2024. 

He was a giant in Conflict Management and shared his wisdom with the Presbyterians in building and rebuilding the relationships.


The Rev Nkoana was a minister in Warden/Harrismith Presbyterian Church within the bounds of the Presbytery of Trans-Xhariep. 

Sincere condolences to his wife, kids, grandchildren and the Nkoana family and all related families.

Funeral arrangements will be announced soon.

Bereavement Elder emeritus Mr James G Luhana

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

With deep sadness, I hereby announce the passing on of elder emeritus Mr James G Luhana on Thursday, 16 November 2023. Funeral arrangements are under way to be announced soon. May he rest in eternal peace.

With his death, Mchinga Presbytery and, indeed, the Synod of Zambia lost one of the founding fathers of the Presbyterian Church in Zambia. During his days of service, Mr Luhana was very instrumental in the writing and sending of the overture to the General Assembly that saw the birth of the Synod of Zambia in 1994. He also served the church as Presbytery Moderator for Central Zambia Presbytery and many other portfolios in the Synod.

Please uphold the Luhana family and the Synod of Zambia in your prayers.

Bereavements NOTICE OF DEATH: REV ROBERT CORDER Passed away

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

 

It is with deep sadness to inform you of the passing of the Rev Robert George Corder (known as Rob)  in the morning of Saturday the 28th of October 2023. May he rest in eternal peace. The details of the sending-off service will be communicated as soon as they become available.

Rev Corder was a minister emeritus residing within the bounds of the Central Cape Presbytery. He was a former relief minister of Kabega Presbyterian Church, within the Presbytery.

Please uphold his widow, Mrs Shirley Coder, and her family in your prayers.

Bereavement Elder David Chibi

Good morning Presbytery,
It is with a sad heart that I have to share the news with you of the passing of Elder David Chibi, who served on the Session of St Andrew’s Emalahleni until his passing yesterday. David suffered a fatal heart attack. May I please ask that we keep his wife Thando and the Chibi family in our prayers.
I shall keep you informed regarding the funeral arrangements.

NOTICE OF MEMORIAL AND FUNERAL SERVICE: REV SO LONI

Greetings to you in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

1. The letter dated 25 July 2023 on the passing of the Very Rev Sibakhulu Orsmond Loni refers. Rev
Loni was a minister in charge of St Andrew’s King William’s Town congregation within the Amathole
Presbytery and also the first Deputy General Secretary of the UPCSA. He passed away on the
morning of Tuesday 25 July 2023 after a long illness.

2. Kindly be informed that a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday 1 August 2023 at 10:30 at a
venue to be confirmed in King William’s Town.

3. The funeral service of the Rev Loni will be held on Thursday 3 August 2023 and the details are as
follows:

  • i) The corpse will depart from Sokudela Funeral Directors at 21 Leopold Street in King William’s Town and will arrive at St Andrew’s King William’s Town congregation (Corner Alexandra Road and Ayliff Street, King William’s Town) at 06:00 for a short service.
  • ii) The corpse will then depart to the Loni home at 165 Wodehouse Street, Headlands, King William’s Town at 06:30.
  • iii) We shall then proceed to Tyhusha Village near King William’s Town for the interment at the graveyard at 07:00.
  • iv) At 09:30 the funeral service will commence at a venue to be confirmed in King William’s Town.

4. St Andrew’s congregation will be visiting the home at 165 Wodehouse Street, Headlands, King
William’s Town tomorrow on Thursday 27 July 2023 at 15:00.

5. For further information, you may contact the office of the Moderator through the Presbytery Clerk
or the Session Clerk of St Andrew’s KWT congregation, Elder Babes Majokweni on 082 486
3228.

Bereavement Notice of Death: Rev SO Loni

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA

Please receive the death notice from the Presbytery of Amathole.

The Rev Sibakhulu Orsmond Loni passed away this morning.

He was a minister of St Andrew’s King William’s Town, a former Moderator of the General Assembly, and a former Deputy General Secretary of the UPCSA.

May he rest in peace.

NOTICE OF DEATH: REV SO LONI

Greetings to you in the Name of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

It is with deepest sadness and a heavy heart to inform you of the passing of one of our
Ministers, Rev Sibakhulu Orsmond Loni, a minister of St Andrew’s King William’s Town
congregation and also Director of the Mission and Discipleship Division within the Amathole
Presbytery.

Rev Loni was called to Higher Service this morning on Tuesday the 25th of July 2023 after a
long illness.

Further details will be provided once they are available as the bereavement is still fresh.

DEATH NOTICE: MRS GLENYS KELLY PASSED AWAY

It is with deep sadness to announce that Mrs Glenys Kelly passed away at 06:00 am this morning. May she rest in eternal peace. Funeral details will be communicated as soon as they become available.

Mrs Kelly was a commissioner from eGoli Presbytery to the General Assemblies and Executive Commission meetings for many years. She was a member of some of the Committees of General Assembly and was a Convener of the Communications Committee.

BEREAVEMENT Rev Dr Patricia Pat Baxter

TO ALL IN THE UPCSA
It is with deep sadness to announce that the Rev Dr Patricia Pat Baxter passed away this morning (21 June 2023). May she rest in eternal peace. Further details will be communicated as soon as they become available.
Pat served as Ministry Secretary of the UPCSA until June 2022. She was, thereafter, appointed as a minister of St John the Evangelist United Church within eGoli Presbytery. It was shortly after that appointment that Pat fell ill and she requested to be relieved from the appointment.
Pat is survived by her brother, Neville. We convey our deepest condolences to Neville. Please uphold him in your prayers.

It is with deep sadness to announce that the Rev Dr Glen Craig passed away this morning. May he rest in eternal peace. Further details will be communicate as they are available.

Rev Dr Craig was a minister emeritus within the Presbytery of Central Cape. He was a past Moderator of the General Assembly. He also contributed in the training of some of our ministers and other theologians while he lectured at Rhodes University. Please uphold his family in your prayers.
